id=\"penci-toc-container\"><nav><h3>Be enchanted by the heart-shaped islands<\/h3><p>Here in the north-west of the country, water is the lifeline - and the blue heart of Bosnia and Herzegovina is the Japodski Otoci, a small group of islands that are actually shaped like a heart from above.<\/p><p>But even those who don't admire them from a bird's eye view will feel at home here: Cute little cottages and tree houses, hidden corners, the Japod Islands are a magical little place where the worries of the day automatically fall away from you.<\/p><h3>Stroll through the ethnic village of \u010cardaklije<\/h3><p>Located between Jajce and Biha\u0107, this ethnic village is home to traditional buildings and crafts. The owners still work here just as their ancestors did 150 years ago: Processing meat and dairy products and offering traditional dishes with regional and seasonal ingredients in their restaurant. On the estate, you can see antique hand tools in the traditional houses and learn how traditional jams and teas are made.<\/p><p>Children can play with the farm animals here, and even horse rides can be booked. And in addition to the excellent inn, you can also\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/booking.tp.st\/FGNnbgbE\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">also stay overnight in \u010cardaklije<\/a>.<\/p><h3>Book a kayak trip or rafting on the River Una<\/h3><p>Getting to know the Una from the water has a charm all of its own. It takes you twelve kilometres through the Una gorge and unspoilt nature. Although there are a few rapids, the Una is not too turbulent - and gliding on the water through the national park with its cascades, rapids and landscapes is a very special experience.<\/p><p>If you want to go wild, you can also book a rafting tour through the Una valley - these usually start from Strba\u010dki Buk and give you more of an adrenaline rush than paddling a village of Cazin you will find the Ostro\u017eac fortress, an interesting mixture of eras. The castle was built in the early Iron Age, then extended by the Bosnian kings with a defence tower and later by the Ottomans with further buildings. In the early 20th century, the fortress was then sold to an Austrian Habsburg count, who restored and modernised it - Ostro\u017eac today is a wild mixture of architectural styles and eras.<\/p><p>Unfortunately, the castle has pretty much fallen into disrepair, but renovation work has now have been up to Biha\u0107 and of course to Una National Park several times, at different times of the year and with very different people - and each time I am absolutely amazed by nature. The waterfalls, the colour of the Una, the peace and tranquillity, it's all definitely worth a visit.<\/p><p>The only thing I would like to see is more outdoor activities, such as hiking or cycling tours. But like everywhere else in Bosnia and Herzegovina, tourism is constantly developing and I am confident that the offer in Biha\u0107 will also improve steadily.
