The best cafés for breakfast in Prague

by Kathi Daniela

When I visit my friend Carilyn in Prague, our mornings always look the same. We wake up, throw something on, grab a flat white to go from mamacoffee (we're allowed to bring our own mugs), grab her dog Frida for a quick walk and then take a leisurely stroll to one of our favourite places. breakfast spots breakfast.

Carilyn usually picks one, as booking in advance is a must for almost everyone, and then surprises me with her latest favourite café, which serves either amazing smoothie bowls, great coffee or the most delicious Eggs Benedict. We visit these seven locations over and over again - a weekend in Prague is not complete for me without eating my favourite breakfast in at least one of them!

The best smoothie bowls and Egg Benedict in town, tucked away in a gorgeous little backyard - right on Wenceslas Square, yet far from the hustle and bustle. Most of the furnishings are also available to buy.

Vodičkova 708/35, 110 00 Nové Město

Fresh coffee, sourdough bread with avocado and homemade lemonade made from seasonal fruit in the centre of the lively Vinohrady district. With a bit of luck, you can still get a seat here at 10.00 a.m. without a reservation

Korunní 86, Vinohrady

Your favourite coffee spot on the corner. A small but fine café with probably the best cappuccino in town and a relaxed interior with cosy armchairs. The perfect place to sit out a rain shower or make plans for the day.

Korunní 1342/96, Vinohrady

Away from all the hustle and bustle in the relaxed hipster district of Karlín. A real insider tip with great flair, a huge selection of coffees and incredibly good cakes.

Křižíkova 386/105, Praha-8 Karlín

Probably the only tourist spot on my list, but still a must because of the Viennese coffee house flair, the half litre of latte, the salmon blinis and the fact that Kafka himself was a guest here. You can't make a reservation here, but be prepared for a wait if you arrive after 10am.

Národní 22, Nové Město

The perfect spot for a brunch with prosecco, cakes and speciality coffees and teas. Right next to Namestí Miru and therefore the perfect spot to have breakfast before a tour of the city

Sázavská 2031/32, Vinohrady

The most amazing rustic interior, solid coffee and great cupcakes and banana bread. Afterwards, take a stroll through Letná Park and take some photos!

Letohradská 44, Prague 7-Letná
